«Волшебная пуля», чудодейственное средство. Первой «волшебной пулей» стало излечение сифилиса. Пауль Эрлих (1854—1915), немецкий врач, в начале XX в. разработал свой метод, который он назвал salvarsan, от латинского salvus (надёжный, полный) и немецкого Arsen (мышьяк), т. к. лечение было основано на применении вещества, содержащего мышьяк. С тех пор это словосочетание сначала обозначало любое лекарство, которое поражало болезненное образование, оставляя здоровые ткани нетронутыми, а потом и любое быстро разрешающее проблему (как техническую, так и социальную) средство. Возможно, это название появилось как производное от silver bullet (серебряная пуля), которая якобы могла убить вампира или оборотня. Словосочетание magic bullet упоминается при описании единственной пули, которая причинила семь отдельных ранений президенту Кеннеди в 1963 г.The problems of Third World debt and environmental pollution will not just go away.
